Support Our Award-Winning Program in the Kimberley

Donate to the next chapter of Sound FX – the Kimberley Song Muster

For nearly 40 years, Tura has connected communities through music and sound celebrating culture, amplifying voices, and fostering deep collaboration across Australia. Now, we invite you to help shape what comes next.

As an independent arts organisation, we rely on your generosity to reach further, listen deeper, and help shape Australia’s cultural future.

About Buga Yanu Junba

In September, we proudly launched Buga Yanu Junba – a vibrant new songbook and album created by West Kimberley Elders and language educators to celebrate and revitalise the region’s languages.

Developed over four years in collaboration with Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre and Baya Gawiy early childhood and family centre, this project is part of Tura’s award-winning Sound FX program.

Written and recorded in Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Walmajarri, Kimberley Kriol and English, these songs are more than music – they are living expressions of local wisdom, carrying stories, language and cultural knowledge across generations.

With Buga Yanu Junba now launched, we’re stepping into the next phase of Sound FX: the Kimberley Song Muster.

Through song, the Kimberley Song Muster breathes new life into heritage languages – connecting communities, generations, and stories across the region.

This new chapter builds on nine years of deep engagement in the Fitzroy Valley and expands our reach to Derby, Halls Creek, and beyond. Led by Tura in partnership with Dr Gillian Howell (University of Melbourne) and supported by community organisations including Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre, the project will support new songwriting, recording, and language education initiatives across the Kimberley.

The Australian Government, through the Indigenous Languages and Arts program, has committed $650,000 to support this work over the next three years – a powerful endorsement of our work.

To build on this momentum, we’re aiming to raise an additional $100,000 by December to support the first year of the Kimberley Song Muster.

We warmly invite you to help us reach this goal.

Your donation will help us:

  • Support ongoing performances and workshops across the Kimberley
  • Launch new songwriting and recording initiatives in heritage languages
  • Continue long-term collaborations that centre Aboriginal voices, stories and languages
