Wanim Tour
11-21 September 2026
Wanim brings together Stephen Pigram, Bart Marr, Mary Rapp, Carl Dewhurst and Talya Valenti in a compelling meeting of song, story and contemporary sound, rooted in Kimberley Country.
A journey across Kimberley Country through music, story and cultural exchange.
Tura presents Wanim – a journey across Kimberley Country through music, story and cultural exchange – taking place across the Kimberley from 11–21 September 2026, with public performances and school workshops in Kununurra, Warmun, Halls Creek, Wangkatjungka, Fitzroy Crossing and Broome.
Bringing together Kimberley icon Stephen Pigram, Fitzroy Valley singer-songwriter Bart Marr, and acclaimed musicians and sound artists Mary Rapp, Carl Dewhurst and Talya Valenti, Wanim is an invitation to listen across cultures, generations and musical traditions.
Rather than touring a fixed production, Wanim evolves from place to place, shaped by local artists, cultural leaders and the stories of Country. Every event is created in conversation with the community that hosts it. From Wangga and Joonba to contemporary songwriting, improvisation and immersive sound, every performance unfolds as its own unique shared experience.
Alongside the public performances, the artists will work with young people in schools throughout the tour, sharing music, stories and creative practice with the next generation of Kimberley musicians and storytellers.
Wanim continues Tura's 25-year commitment to artistic collaboration across the Kimberley. It builds on enduring relationships with Red Ochre Award recipient Stephen Pigram and honours the legacy of Danny Marr of Fitzroy Xpress through the involvement of his nephew, Bart Marr. These long-standing partnerships provide the foundation for new creative exchanges that celebrate living culture while exploring new possibilities for music-making.
Grounded in Kimberley Country and shaped by the people who call it home, Wanim celebrates the Kimberley as one of Australia's most vital centres of contemporary music and cultural expression.
Stephen Pigram
Guitar, Ukulele, Vocals
Stephen Pigram is a renowned Indigenous musician from the pearling town of Broome, Western Australia. As a singer/songwriter he has been central to the continuation and development of Broome Creole music – the unique music style that draws on both the traditional Aboriginal music of Broome and the Dampier Peninsula and the many international cultures that have been a part of Broome culture.
As the quintessential musician Stephen performs vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica, ukulele and dulcimer with his idiosyncratic and poetic lyrics reflecting Kimberley life, culture and politics.
Stephen and his brothers are part of the well-known folk/rock septet The Pigram Brothers. Stephen and his brother Alan Pigram were the first indigenous artists to be inducted into the West Australian Music Industry’s Hall of Fame.
Bart Marr
Guitar, Vocals
Bart has been playing guitar since the age of 10, inspired by his father Victor and uncle Danny, both members of the legendary Kimberley band Fitzroy Xpress. In 2020, he joined Fitzroy Xpress on lead guitar for their performance at the WA Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. A founding member of the Now or Never Boys, formed in 2003 while attending school in Fitzroy Crossing, Bart has performed across the Kimberley, including at the Derby Moonrise Festival, NAIDOC celebrations and community events, as well as touring in support of Fitzroy Xpress.
