Buga Yanu Junba Roadshow

Across three weeks in September 2025, lead artist Dr Gillian Howell and Tura Project Coordinator Annika Moses, together with songwriters and educators, embarked on a tour visiting community centres and schools across Bayulu, Wangkatjungka, Yungngora, Junjuwa and more.

The tour included performances and workshops by Buga Yanu Junba songwriters and educators in partnership with Baya Gawiy Buga Yani Jandu Yani U, Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre’s child and parent centre. Staff and students from Fitzroy Valley District High School joined the tour as on-country learning within their language and music curriculum, and celebrated the children’s contributions to writing and recording Buga Yanu Junba. The tour was presented in partnership with Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre and The University of Melbourne, and supported by the Indigenous Language and Arts program.

This event was not only a launch for the album and songbook but a celebration of Baya Gawiy’s 13th anniversary, and their achievement of Exceeding the National Quality Standard in their most recent assessment and rating process, conducted under the National Quality Framework for early childhood education and care. This remarkable achievement was a testament to the dedication, cultural leadership, and reflective practice of the Baya Gawiy team, who created a safe and inspiring place for children to grow, learn, and connect to culture.
